Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 18, 2026
Last updated: April 18, 2026Screen Glide ("Screen Glide", "we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we process, how it is used, and the choices you have when using the macOS app and our website.
1. What Screen Glide Does
Screen Glide is a macOS screen recording and editing app. Depending on the features you choose to use, the app may access and process:
- Your screen, windows, or a selected recording area
- System and microphone audio
- Camera/video input for webcam overlays
- Cursor position and interaction data
- User interface context (to improve cursor-following and zoom behavior)
- License activation and update information
2. Information Processed By The App
A. Content you choose to record
When you use Screen Glide, the app may process and store locally on your Mac:
- Screen recordings
- Webcam recordings
- System audio
- Microphone audio
- Exported video files
- Project files and editing metadata
This content may contain personal information depending on what appears on your screen or what is captured in audio/video.
B. Cursor and interaction metadata
To support cursor effects, zooming, pan behavior, and editing features, Screen Glide stores local cursor/session metadata such as:
- Cursor position
- Mouse click activity
- Scroll activity
- Cursor visibility state
- High-level keyboard activity types (e.g., typing, navigation, or shortcuts)
Screen Glide does not store the actual text you type or the specific keys pressed for this feature.
C. Window and accessibility metadata
If you grant Accessibility permission, Screen Glide may locally process metadata such as:
- Relative positions of active windows
- The type of UI element currently in focus (e.g., a button or text field)
This information is used solely to improve recording and editing behavior, such as automatic focus detection and zoom targeting. Screen Glide does not store the content of your windows or selected text through this feature.
D. License and purchase-related information
If you activate a paid license, Screen Glide sends license-related information to our licensing provider, Polar.sh, including:
- The license key you provide
- Account identifiers needed for validation
- A device label (e.g., "My MacBook Pro") to help you manage your activations
To keep your license active on your Mac, Screen Glide stores the following locally in the macOS Keychain:
- Your license key and activation data
- The last successful validation timestamp
E. App update checks
Screen Glide periodically checks for app updates to ensure you have the latest features and security improvements.
As with most internet requests, these checks may involve standard network metadata (such as an IP address) transmitted to our update infrastructure.
3. Website and Landing Page Specifics
When you visit our website (the "Landing Page"), we may collect and process the following information:
- Analytics: We use Vercel Analytics to help us understand how visitors interact with our website. This allows us to improve the user experience. Vercel Analytics processes usage data in a privacy-focused manner and does not sell your data.
- Cookies and Tracking: We use strictly necessary cookies to ensure the basic functionality of the website and to securely handle payments and checkout sessions via our payment provider (Polar.sh).
- Checkout Information: When you purchase a license, you are directed to our third-party payment processor. We do not directly store or process your credit card details. The payment processor handles your personal and payment information according to their own privacy policies.
4. What We Do Not Currently Use
Based on the current version of the app and website, Screen Glide does not appear to include or use:
- Advertising SDKs
- Behavioral tracking SDKs
- Cloud syncing of recordings/projects by default
- Automatic crash-reporting services
If that changes in a future version, we will update this Privacy Policy.
5. How Information Is Used
We use the information processed by Screen Glide and our website to:
- Record and edit your videos
- Render cursor, zoom, pan, and overlay effects
- Save and reopen projects
- Export finished videos
- Activate, validate, and deactivate licenses
- Check for and deliver app updates
- Maintain app functionality and security
- Improve your experience on our website
6. Where Data Is Stored
Most Screen Glide app data is stored locally on your Mac. This includes:
- Unsaved recording segments and temporary session files
- Your saved projects and exported videos
- App configuration and preferences
- License activation data secured via system-level encryption (macOS Keychain)
7. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. We only share data with third parties when needed to provide app or website functionality, such as:
- Polar.sh (for purchase processing and license validation)
- Vercel (for website hosting and analytics)
- Standard network infrastructure used for app update checks
Your recordings, microphone audio, webcam footage, cursor telemetry, and project contents are not transmitted to us by default through the app itself.
8. Permissions
Screen Glide may request the following macOS permissions:
- Screen Recording: To capture your display, windows, or selected area
- Accessibility: To detect window positions, cursor context, and focused UI regions for editing/zoom features
- Microphone: To record narration/audio input
- Camera: To record webcam overlays
You can deny or revoke these permissions at any time in macOS System Settings, though some features may stop working.
9. Data Retention
App data remains on your device until you delete it, unless a shorter retention period applies to temporary files. You can manage retention by:
- Deleting exported videos
- Deleting Screen Glide project files
- Removing temporary files from your Mac
- Deactivating your license to clear local activation state
License-related Keychain items are removed when a license is deactivated locally. Website analytics data is retained per our provider's (Vercel) standard retention policies.
10. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect data processed by the app and website. For example, license credentials are stored in the macOS Keychain rather than plain text app storage, and we use secure HTTPS connections. However, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Your Choices
You can choose to:
- Not grant optional permissions such as Camera or Microphone
- Revoke previously granted permissions in macOS System Settings
- Avoid activating a paid license if you do not want license validation over the network
- Delete your local recordings, exports, and project files at any time
- Disable or avoid using network connectivity except where required for licensing or update checks
12. Children’s Privacy
Screen Glide is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app or website.
13. Third-Party Services
If you use features that rely on third parties, their privacy practices may also apply. Relevant services may include:
- Polar.sh
- Vercel
- Network infrastructure used for app updates
- Any website you open manually from within the app, such as pricing or purchase pages
We encourage you to review those third parties’ privacy policies as well.
14. Changes To This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
